Wichita
Wichita (also: Vicita; Wichita [ˈwɪtʃɪˌtɔ] is a city in the United States, the largest city in Kansas. Located in southern Kansas state on the Arkansas River in Sejjuic district. The official Russian name of the city "Wichita" (with the end -o) corresponds to the real American pronunciation of this name and is used on all Russian-language maps of the USA, as well as in all geographical encyclopedias published in Russia.

The city's population is more than 360,000, making it the 51st largest in the United States.
The city was founded in 1870 by entrepreneurs who did business with the indigenous Wichita tribe, from which the city's name originated. They created the Chizholm Road, which is meant for cattle. The road enabled the country's northern markets to be connected to the eastern markets.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Clyde Cessna and Walter Beach began to develop projects directly related to flights, which gave Wichito the nickname. The Air Capital Of The World. By the early 1930s, aircraft manufacturers such as Stearman, Cessna, Mooney and Beech appeared in the city. Currently, Cessna and Hawker Beechcraft are still based in Wichito, along with Learjet and Spirit AeroSystems. It also has Airbus and Boeing branches.
Wichito is also one of the most important cultural and entertainment centers in Kansas. Night clubs, restaurants, shopping centers, museums, parks are all integral parts of the city's life. The 15,000-seat arena was built in the center of Wichita, which was completed in 2010.
In July 2006, Wichito was ranked 9th in the CNN/Money and Money Magazine in the Top 10 major cities of the United States in terms of the attractiveness of life. And in 2008, MSN Real Estate magazine called it the best inexpensive city in the US.
Geography
According to the US Census Bureau, the city covers an area of 423.7 km², of which 11.14 km² is water.
Wichita is located in the Middle West of the United States. Geographically lies on the border of the Great Plains and the Central Plains. The region is formed by river sediments, mainly sand sediments. The Arkansas River flows from north to south, and is conditionally divided into western and eastern parts. Crossing the city, Arkansas is replenished by several inflows, the largest of which is the Small Arkansas, which enters Arkansas directly to the west from the city center. From the north to the south of the western part of the city, the Valley Center Floodway, in the simple people "Big Ditch", which takes a part of the river Arkansas, and returns the water stream already outside the city, in the south. This and another water canal are the city's flood protection system.
Climate
Wichita is located in a continental climate, with hot, dry summer and cool but dry winter. Temperatures during the year range from -7°C in January to 40°C in July. The average maximum temperature is 32°C (approximately 64 days a year) and sometimes reaches 40°C (14 days a year). The average minimum temperature is 0 °C (approximately 108 days a year). Temperature falls in late October to early November, and increases occur in mid-April.
The city receives an average of more than 760mm of rain annually, most of which is in May-June. The annual rainfall varies from 560 to 1000 mm depending on the area. Precipitation occurs on average 88 days a year. Winter snowfalls account for an average of 43 cm, and rains account for 20 cm. On average 18 days a year there is snow at least 1 inch deep on the streets.
The city is vulnerable to harsh weather conditions: Between March and June, there are frequent thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by hail and sometimes tornado. On April 26, 1991, there were 55 tornadoes simultaneously operating in the United States, most of them in Oklahoma and Kansas. Two people were killed in Oklahoma and 19 in Kansas. On May 3, 1999, an F4 tornado was passed through Oklahoma and Kansas. In Oklahoma, 40 people were killed, in Kansas, in Kansas, in Tennessee, in Tennessee, 3, in Texas, in 1.

The population of Wichita was 357,698 in 2006, having increased by 6,188 or 1.8% over the last 6 years. The population of the Wichita agglomeration, which includes the districts of Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey, and Sumner, was 596,452, 245,159 households, making it the 84th largest in the United States.
According to the 2000 census, the city had 344,284 inhabitants, 139,087 households and 87,763 families. Population density 2536.1 per square mile (979.2/km²). There were 152,119 housing units with an average density of 1,120.6 units per square mile (300.3/km²). The population of the city is 75.20% white, 15.62% African-American, 1.16% Native American, 3.96% Asian, 0.06% Pacific, 5.10% non-African and 3.10% mixed . Hispanics or Hispanics account for 9.62% of the total population.
In the city, 139,087 households, of which 32.1 per cent had children under 18 years of age, 47.3 per cent were married and lived together, 11.6 per cent were single women, and 36.9 per cent had no families. 31.2% of all households are composed of one person, 9.3% are over 65 years of age, living alone. The average household size is 2.44 persons and the average family size is 3.10 persons.
Age structure of the city population - 27.1% of inhabitants under 18 years of age, 10.1% - 18 to 24, 30.7% - 25 to 44 years of age, 20.2% - 45 to 64 years of age and 11.9% - 6 years of age . The average age was 33 years. For every 100 women there were 97.1 men. For every 100 women over the age of 18, there were 94.6 men.
The average annual household income in the city was $39,939, and the average annual household income was $49,247. Men's average annual income is $36,457 compared to $20,288 for women. The city's average annual per capita income was $20,647. 8.4 per cent of households and 11.2 per cent of the population were below the poverty line, of which 14.4 per cent were under the age of 18 and 7.6 per cent were over the age of 65.
Transport
Most of Wichita's population travels around Kansas by car. The Kansas Turnpike (Interstate 35), Interstate 135, Interstate 235, and the US Route 54/400 and K-96 highways pass near the city.
The city has 18 bus routes, with 51 buses.
The nearest Amtrak station is located in Newton, Kansas, located 32 kilometers north of Wichita, carrying traffic south-west (between Los Angeles and Chicago). In addition, it is planned to put into operation the section of the railway between Newton and Oklahoma City.
Wichita is the largest airport in Kansas, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. Flights to other cities are operated by 9 commercial carriers. At present, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport carries approximately 1.6 million passengers a year. Also at the service of residents of Wichita is provided by Colonel James Jabara Airport, located 14 kilometers north-east of the city.
Internal division

The Wichita center is confined to the Arkansas River from the east, Washington Street from the west, Kellogg Avenue from the north, and 13th Street from the south. Its attractions are Century II, The Garvey Center and The Epic Center. Of particular importance is the Old Town, which occupies 2-3 square miles.
The most notable areas of Wichita are Riverside and Hill College. Riverside is located north-west of the city center, on the Arkansas River, and surrounds Riverside Park with an area of 0.49 km². Hill College is located east of the city center and south of the University of Wichita. Hill College is one of the most historic quarters, along with Deleno in the west and Midtown in the north of Wichita.
Wichita also includes the small town of Istboro, located east of the Hill College.
The city has two major shopping centers, Town East Square and Town West Square, located in the east and west respectively. They are the property of Simon Property Group. Each one has more than 100 shops and restaurants. Wichita also has a Bradley Fair Mall with 57 shops and restaurants.
Culture
Wichita is the cultural center of Kansas. The Wichita Art Museum, the Wichita Music Theater, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Orpheus Theater are the main cultural value of the city. In the old town, Delano and South Commercial Street there are art galleries.
Wichita is the hometown of Manilla Road, a well-known Hewi-Metal Group.
