Temps trend down Tuesday as rain chances ramp up

KWCH Forecast Temps in Kansas are expected to remain mild throughout the day, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 80s or higher than average this afternoon. The remnants of Norma and low pressure from the west will combine to produce widespread, beneficial rainfall across central and eastern Kansas. The heaviest rain is expected to fall along and east of the turnpike, with lighter amounts west of I-135. A second surge of moisture is expected late Wednesday and last through midday Thursday. The weather story for the weekend will be much colder temperatures, with highs expected in the 40s and 50s expected to be in the 20s and 30s.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - It is a mild Monday morning across Kansas, and the day ahead will follow suite. Strong and gusty winds from the south will push temperatures into the upper 80s this afternoon, or twenty degrees above average.

Get set to get wet starting tonight. Tropical moisture from the remnants of Norma will combine with low pressure moving in from the west to produce widespread, beneficial rainfall across central and eastern Kansas.

Rain chances arrive on after 3 am and last through midday Tuesday. The heaviest rain will fall along and east of the turnpike, with lighter amounts west of I-135. Little to no rain is expected over western Kansas.

A second surge of moisture will arrive late Wednesday and last through midday Thursday. Like tonight and Tuesday, expect heavy rain to the east, and little or no rainfall farther west. 1-2″ total rainfall is possible/likely in the Wichita area tonight through Thursday.

The weather story into the weekend will be much colder temperatures. Highs in the 40s and 50s will be followed by nights in the 20s and 30s. In addition to the big cool-down, rain and perhaps a light wintry mix may fall on parts of the state.
