Newton man sentenced to more than 24 years for child sex crimes
A district judge in Harvey County on Friday sentenced a 66-year-old Newton man to 294 months (24.5 years) in prison for child sex crimes. A district judge in Harvey County, Kan. has sentenced 66-year-old Newton man, John Unick, to 294 months in prison for child sex crimes. This comes two months after Unick pleaded guilty to rape and aggravated criminal sodomy in a case involving a child younger than 14. The judge also ordered Unick to serve lifetime post release and lifetime registration as a sexual offender.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A district judge in Harvey County on Friday sentenced a 66-year-old Newton man to 294 months (24.5 years) in prison for child sex crimes. The sentencing against John Unick comes two months after he pleaded guilty to rape and aggravated criminal sodomy in a case involving a child younger than 14.
Along with the prison sentence, the district court said the judge ordered Unick to serve lifetime post release and lifetime registration as a sexual offender.
